The Wellington Regional Leadership Committee is a partnership of councils, iwi and central government working together to shape a stronger, more connected region where communities can thrive.

The Future Development Strategy is a foundational document for the WRLC.

The Framework has been superceded by the Future Development Strategy.

Wellington Regional Leadership Committee Objectives

  • Embed strong, enduring collaboration between local government, central government and iwi, sharing responsibility for cross-boundary, growth-related challenges
  • Oversee and guide delivery of the WRLC work programme, which is shaped by the Future Development Strategy and the Regional Economic Development Plan
  • Align efforts across councils, agencies and iwi to reduce duplication, improve integration and deliver better outcomes for communities
  • Support regionally coordinated, collective decision-making
  • Strengthen regional connections and collaboration
  • Provide a platform for one regional voice helping bring cohesion to the region and unlocking opportunities for government partnership and investment
