Experience the rugged beauty of Baring Head/Ōrua-pouanui on this guided walk on the remote coast of Raukawa Moana.

Explore Baring Head’s newly heritage-listed lighthouse complex, the ongoing refurbishment project, and learn about the history of this important maritime facility. The lighthouse will be open to the public on the day.  

Normally closed to the public, the Atmospheric Research Station will be open for science buffs interested in how NIWA been recording and researching greenhouse gases at Baring Head for over 50 years.

Led by Friends of Baring Head and HEM of Remutaka rangers, this event promises a captivating day of exploration and discovery. 

Come and immerse yourself in the history and natural wonders that make Baring Head/Ōrua-pouanui a truly remarkable destination.

Bring sturdy walking shoes, a packed lunch, water, sunscreen and sun hat, and warm and weatherproof layers. Baring Head Ōrua-pouanui is very exposed and weather can change quickly, so come prepared.  

This walk is approximately three hours with some steep sections and requires a good level of fitness. It is not suitable for kids under 13.
